One of the most prominent Taiwanese sculptors, Ju Ming (b. 1938)
is a highly influential artist of the Modern Abstract Movement and is
considered one of the pioneers of contemporary Asian sculpture. Working
in a range of media, primarily bronze, wood, and stainless steel, Ju Ming
creates simple, yet aesthetically unique sculptures that convey traditional
Chinese values and cultural symbols. The artist received international
acclaim in the 1980s when his passion and ambitious spirit led him to
present and exhibit his work in New York. Since then, Ju Ming’s work have
become highly desirable. On October 4, 2015, a larger bronze version of
Ju Ming’s Single Whip sold for $567,719 (with premium) at Sotheby’s Hong
Kong.
